Delete your Tabsend data

How to remove a device, remove the apps, or delete your Tabsend account, and what is kept afterward.

The short version

  • Remove one device from the device list in any Tabsend app.
  • Remove the extension, or unpair and delete the app, and Tabsend's data on that device goes with it. Your server still lists the device until you remove it from the device list.
  • Delete a hosted account from your account page, or by email to contact@tabsend.org.
  • Backups roll off within 30 days. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires.
  • On your own server, you hold everything and you delete it.

Tabsend is made and run by Zinnia Drive LLC. On this page, "we" means Zinnia Drive LLC. The privacy policy has the full list of what Tabsend handles.

1. Remove one device

  1. Open the device list in any Tabsend app, on a device you are keeping. In the browser extension, it is in Settings, under Devices. In the Android and iPhone apps, it is the list of your devices on the main screen.
  2. Choose Remove next to the device, and confirm.

A device can't remove itself, so do it from another one. This removes the device from your group, and its wake-up address with it. The server deletes the device's name, type, public key and token fingerprint.

2. Remove the extension or app

Remove the extension, and the browser deletes everything the extension kept: your encryption keys, pairing details, settings, recent links and links waiting to be sent.

On a phone, tap Unpair in the Tabsend app before you delete it. That clears Tabsend's keys, pairing and links from the phone.

Your server still lists the device until you remove it from the device list (section 1). Do that from another device.

3. Delete a hosted account

This is for the hosted service we run. It is not open yet.

  • From your account page. Once the hosted service opens, sign in and choose "Delete my account".
  • By email, any time. Write to contact@tabsend.org from your account's email address, with the subject line "Delete my Tabsend account". We may ask you to confirm the request is yours. We answer within 30 days.

To take your address off the waiting list for the hosted service, email the same address and say so.

4. What is deleted

When you delete a hosted account, we remove your account, your group and everything on the server:

  • your account: your email address, your trial and subscription dates, and your Stripe customer number
  • your group and its devices: their names, types, public keys and token fingerprints
  • your links: those waiting to be delivered, and your history copies
  • delivery records
  • wake-up addresses

5. What is kept, and for how long

  • Backups. Backups of the hosted database roll off within 30 days.
  • Server logs. Request logs, which hold IP addresses, are erased after 30 days.
  • Payment records. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires. We never see your card number.
  • Emails you sent us. We keep support emails until you ask us to delete them.

6. On your own server

If you or someone you trust runs your server, you hold everything on it, and you delete it. We never receive what is on it. If someone else runs yours, ask them.
